The 2024 Volvo EX90 is already sold out for its first year of production, while deliveries are still a few months away.
Volvo released a press statement discussing the company’s Q1 2023 financial results and divulged that customer interest has exceeded the internal projections, but did not reveal the number of vehicles for its first-year production run.

“As a result, Volvo Cars has closed the order book for the time being because the first scheduled production run is sold out,” the company said in a statement, “but it will re-open again soon.”
The EX90 was released in November 2022 as Volvo’s electric counterpart to the three-row XC90 SUV. It uses the new Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) and shares its production line with the upcoming Polestar 3. The expected place of production is Volvo’s South Carolina factory, which according to Volvo, will become the first all-electric plant by 2030.

Volvo’s EV sales have been strong overall, with the company reporting that EVs represent 18% of total vehicle sales in Q1 2023 as opposed to 8% in Q1 2022. In the US, Recharge vehicles (EVs and plug-in hybrids combined) accounted for 26% of Volvo’s sales. Starting in 2023, Volvo’s entire US lineup will be mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or EV. The current all-electric Volvo models for sale are the XC40 Recharge and its coupe-like sibling, the C40 Recharge which will move to rear-wheel drive in the 2024 model year.
The company that another, smaller electric SUV will be unveiled in 2023 was confirmed during the unveiling of the EX90 last year.
I was lucky enough to snag one of the limited EX90s when production first started. I’m not sure if it’s because the car is amazing or because it’s so rare, but I get a ton of compliments on it. Even though I’ve only had it for a few months, I can already tell it was worth the wait.
