A highly prized classic car, the 1988 Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworth, narrowly missed out on an all-time record at a recent online auction held by Collecting Cars. One of only 500 made, the car sold for an incredible £124,500 after a frenzied 58 bids. This particular car, which is in “time warp” condition with less than 14,000 miles on the clock, was previously owned and cherished by its fifth owner for 10 years. As a homologation special, the RS500 was sold in limited numbers to allow Ford to go racing. It features a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine that produces around 224bhp driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The car comes with its original owner’s manuals, service booklet, maintenance invoices, sales brochure, and an untouched first aid kit. The buyer also receives an additional set of four genuine alloy wheels fitted with period-correct tyres. With an impressive service history considering its low mileage, the seller describes the car as “driving like a new car”, making it a crowd-pleasing addition to any car show or an entertaining companion for spirited drives.
