McLaren Automotive has announced Tobias Sühlmann as its new chief design officer, replacing Rob Melville who departed the company last year to join Ceer, a new electric vehicle brand in Saudi Arabia.

Tobias Sühlmann
Sühlmann has over 20 years of experience in automotive design, mainly at Volkswagen Group. He previously worked as head of exterior design for both Bugatti and Aston Martin, and has also had a previous stint at McLaren. Prior to his new role at McLaren, he served as director of design at Bentley.
During his previous time at McLaren, Sühlmann oversaw the Solus GT hypercar, a track-only car, and other special projects. As chief design officer, Sühlmann will lead the team responsible for future concepts, exterior and interior styling, color and materials. His role also includes developing a new design language for McLaren, as the current design language has been in use since the launch of the P1 hypercar a decade ago.
