Former Saab Plant Rented by Polestar for R&D Purposes

According to reports, Swedish performance EV manufacturer Polestar plans to establish a new 15,000 square foot research and development (R&D) facility at the former Saab/NEVS factory in Trollhattan. The new center will be in addition to existing facilities in Gothenburg and Coventry, England and will initially focus on developing powertrains for the forthcoming Polestar 5 and 6. The rented plant in Trollhattan will also be used to test batteries, electric motors, and powertrains. Media reports stated that National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), which took over the factory some years ago from defunct Saab, recently suspended operations. Polestar confirmed the media reports to Just Auto.

The automaker currently has 800 R&D personnel in Europe. While the Polestar 2 EV is manufactured at a parent company Geely site in China, the Polestar 3 will be produced at both the US Volvo Cars plant in South Carolina and Chengdu, while the newest Polestar 4 will be manufactured at a Geely factory in Hangzhou Bay.
