A beloved FORD Cortina, previously raced and owned by British racing and music icons, has been sold for a stunning amount at auction. The classic 1963 Ford Lotus Cortina was used by renowned drivers Jim Clark, Jack Sears, and Sir John Whitmore, and was later owned by musician Chris Rea. This sought-after creation, built by Ford and Lotus, has won multiple races and was recently purchased at the Collecting Cars auction. Bidders were enamored with this vehicle, and the price eventually climbed to almost £114,000 (132,500 Euros), with a private buyer from Geneva, Switzerland clinching the deal. This specific car has a strong racing pedigree, having won at events such as the Oulton Park Gold Cup of 1963 and the British Saloon Car Champsionship. It has a 1.6-litre twin-cam Lotus petrol engine and was fully restored in the 1980s. Despite being found abandoned in Florida, this classic vehicle has proved to be an invaluable gem to collectors worldwide.
