An auction is being held for a Land Rover Defender that was custom-built for Prince Philip. The vehicle, registered in 2010, features a unique paint job in Keswick Green and a black cloth finish for the interior. The Duke of Edinburgh’s personal specification also included heated seats, plush Land Rover seat covers, and his personal registration number OXR 2. The car has only 15,623 miles on the clock and is part of a private collection of special motors vehicles. Sold through Silverstone Auctions, the Land Rover Defender is in “gleaming condition” and comes with a history file that includes letters between George Hassall and Prince Philip’s head chauffeur, David Key. Other royal-related cars are also part of the auction, including a 2013 Bentley Mulsanne used for royal household duties and a 1942 Ford GPW Jeep used by King George VI. The Land Rover Defender previously sold at an auction last year for £44,000 and is expected to sell for between £50,000 and £70,000 on February 25 at Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry for Silverstone’s Race Retro auction.
