On February 4, 2023, entrepreneur and Porsche collector Jay Aldeguer embarked on an island drive around the breathtaking Bohol in the Philippines. The journey spans approximately 275 km and covers long straights and wooded mountain roads with stunning views of crystal-clear waters and the famous “chocolate hills”. Although Cebu, his lifelong home, is only 500 km southeast of Manila, Aldeguer prefers to escape the city’s hustle and bustle for the less congested quiet roads of Bohol.
Aldeguer’s passion for classic sports cars began with a Mazda Miata Roadster in 1997, and his collection has since grown to include over a dozen classic 911s, including a rare 1968 911 “Soft Window” Targa and a 1966 model. Despite his love for his cars, sharing a ride with his family is undeniable joy for him. In particular, Aldeguer loves driving with his kids around the quiet little towns in Bohol and stopping at spots along the way for roasted pork or “lechon”, a famous Filipino dish.
Bohol’s stunning landscape is second to none, with low mountain ranges and a large plateau at its heart. The Chocolate Hills, located near the town of Carmen, is a series of 1,200 uniform conical peaks. To explore this beautiful island and its surroundings, Aldeguer often takes a ferry from Cebu city to Tubigon in Bohol, then drives north along the coast, detours to the Loboc river and the manmade forest in Bilar, and heads inland towards the Chocolate Hills.
