Today’s Automotive News: Polestar 4, Nautilus Hybrid, Model Y Pricing, and Fuel Choices for Toyota’s PHEVs

Toyota is experimenting with low-carbon fuels for its plug-in hybrids, while the Tesla Model Y is giving ICE models a run for their money in terms of price. The IRS has released a list of models that qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit, and many brands, including Polestar and Lincoln, have opted to debut new vehicles at China’s Shanghai auto show. Stay up-to-date on these stories and more with Green Car Reports.

Polestar revealed the Polestar 4, a high-performance rival to models like the Tesla Model Y Performance and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, in China this week. With a starting price of around $60,000 and a range of up to 300 miles, it has the potential to become the brand’s most popular model.

The 2024 Lincoln Nautilus, the first Ford luxury model to be imported from China, is relying heavily on hybrid technology for its lineup, potentially yielding EPA ratings near 40 mpg based on its system shared with the Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring. A plug-in hybrid version isn’t expected.

The Tesla Model Y now costs less than the average new vehicle, whether you’re only looking at EVs or not. Bloomberg reports that Tesla’s recent price cuts, when combined with the federal EV tax credit, indicate that Tesla has started a price war with ICE manufacturers.

Toyota is also exploring low-carbon fuels from ExxonMobil for its RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrids and may consider using them in combination with PHEVs, including the upcoming 125+ mile models teased by the company.

In case you missed it, the IRS posted a list of American-made EV models that qualify for the $7,500 EV tax credit under new rules for the origin of battery materials.

  1. I was really touched by the story about the little girl who was born with a heart condition and how her family coped with it. I thought it was so sweet how her brothers and sisters would help take care of her and how they all supported each other.
