Today’s Car News Features Toyota’s 120-Mile PHEVs, Corolla Cross Hybrid Drive, Kia’s Robotaxi, and Electric Lyft Rides

Toyota has future plans to develop plug-in hybrids with a range of 125 miles, Kia is increasing their EV production, and Lyft is expanding its electric ride services. We recently test drove the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid which offers great value and fuel efficiency with a sticker price starting below $30,000 and up to 42 mpg. However, luxury-level refinement and performance are not to be expected.

On Friday, Toyota announced their plans to increase plug-in hybrid electric range above 120 miles, which is a significant packaging change from current PHEVs like the redesigned Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime. Kia’s EV goals have also increased to 1.6 million EVs annually by 2030, including a fleet of future purpose-built EVs such as a robotaxi. Lyft has recently launched its Green mode, an extra $1 charge to boost EV usage in their ride-hailing services.
