Today’s Car News: Increased Insurance Expenses for EVs, Vinfast Secures Funding, and Advancements in Airless Tires.

Airless tires may soon become a reality, as Michelin recently tested its EV-focused Uptis airless tire at speeds up to 130 mph. This development could enable the use of such tires in law enforcement vehicles and autonomous vehicles. More updates such as Vinfast’s funding boost and EVs costing more to insure are available at Green Car Reports.

Vietnam’s Vinfast has received a funding boost of $2.5 billion, which could help the company to achieve its goals of launching multiple EVs in the US market and assembling them in North Carolina despite any IPO delays.

According to Consumer Reports, EVs generally cost more to insure than gas vehicles, even including hybrids, because of high battery replacement costs and higher writeoffs after accidents. However, the Nissan Leaf is an exception, costing less to insure than comparable hybrids.
