We recently traveled to Puerto Rico to promote our upcoming Tuner Evolution Show at the San Juan Convention Center in June. Along the way, we had the pleasure of examining Edgar’s Honda Civic Si from Hypermeet & Pit Stop Pop Up. While we were expecting a clean and simple build, we were taken aback by how stunningly put together Edgar’s car was.
Before anything else, we want to thank Edgar for preserving a Honda time capsule. We are seeing less and less of these late 20th century Honda classics, particularly a 2000 Civic Si’, let alone one in such mint condition and still so near to OEM spec. We all appreciate the bright Milano Red color, one of three choices offered on the Si model back in 99/00. The car starts right up and idles perfectly, and Ed chose to keep it nostalgic since the B16a2 that came with these machines from the factory. Despite being the smallest of the Honda DOHC engine family, the B16a2 still provides a punch thanks to its high revving capabilities and dependability.
This little B16 has some supporting mods to help it perform during cruises with the crew, including a Hondata coil pack conversion and a Hondata s300 ECU management; a custom intake and Skunk2 intake manifold assist the 1.6 liter engine breath a little better backed with a classic Toda exhaust manifold. A complete Radium fuel system and external fuel cell pump fuel up into the engine. This EM1 glides pleasantly on Function and Form Type II suspension and a spectacular-looking set of white Group B wheels. The J’s Racing fenders, matched with the ModePerfume front lip and and side skirts provide the EM1 with a subtle yet attention-grabbing appearance.
Regarding the car’s interior, the auto power roll bar positioned behind the Bride Zeta bucket seats gives the car a driveable race car feel while maintaining comfort. A Momo Vintage Spec steering wheel, together with the Circuit Hero wheel hub, sits squarely in the middle of the factory Si cluster. All in all, this EM1 stands out for more reasons than one, and digging deeper into the build highlights all the subtle touches Edgar has put into his Civic, from tiny decals to elegant styling.
Edgar and his crew are genuine OG car enthusiasts that remind us what the car culture is all about, with daily garage hangs and building fantastic cars under the hot sun of Puerto Rico. Spending a day with Ed and his crew is an opportunity not only to be around some fascinating builds but also to be reminded what the spirit of building means. If you ever have an opportunity to explore Puerto Rico, look up Edgar at @hypermeet and go show some love! Rest assured, you won’t be disappointed.
